A Social Enterprise Story
Looking for a rental in Türkiye is often like walking in the dark. You see a building from the outside, wander around inside for a minute or two, and then hope to live there for months, sometimes years. Does the boiler really heat, what are the neighbors like, how is the neighborhood at night, does the water run: you sign without knowing any of it. Not because you do not deserve to know, but because nobody is there to tell you.
The idea started with a thread on X. Someone said “I wish we could read real reviews from the people living in that building”, and hundreds of people wrote their own stories underneath: the flats they were misled about, the boilers that stayed silent, the leaks they were told to keep quiet about. So the problem was not mine alone; it was shared. And nobody was solving it.
I do not remember how many times I read that thread. Then I gathered the talented friends around me, people who had spent years inside this system as tenants. The first prototype came together in a few weeks. The first users we tested with wrote more heartfelt reviews than I could have expected; people genuinely wanted others to avoid the mistakes they had made while moving.
Then the attention came. Online media noticed first, then we appeared in national print and broadcast media. That showed us the idea was bigger than us. Millions of tenants in Türkiye were aware of this gap; they were only waiting for it to be spoken out loud.
Today we are founding EvSkor as a social enterprise. That is a deliberate choice. EvSkor’s first job is not to make a profit; it is to open a place where tenants can learn everything they need to know before they move. To reduce the information asymmetry, to make renting a little more transparent for everyone. Yes, we need to earn money, to live and to grow. But the purpose will always be this: standing by the tenant.
This was not a road I could walk alone. To my team who believed in me, who wrote code late into the night, designed, read legal texts and collected feedback: without you, all of this would have stayed on paper. And to our users who shared their first reviews and spoke honestly during the beta: you are the real heart of this work.
We are at the beginning of the road.
